From 1870 – 1885 Iron Ore production was in all its glory on The Great Lakes. The iron ore refining process left a byproduct of an assortment of minerals: copper & silica sands melted together at extremely high temperature that was dumped into The Great Lakes…creating Leland Blue. A blue, green, grey or purple stone that is actually an iron ore slag. Today it is sought after for its historical & geographical significance on the beaches of The Great Lakes & not hard to find! Just look for its’ unique colorful, & beautiful appearance!
