I am all done getting show stuff ready. It’s packed up and in the trailer: one week to go! First Show of the season in Madison WI, an indoor show and that will be all new to me.
The picture is of a ring I made yesterday. I really love making crazy prong settings for non-traditional Rocks! Traditional being faceted gemstones. This amethyst specimen I bought a bead shop local to me: Rocks of Ages Jewelry and Beads in Luxemburg WI. It’s a great place to shop for beads and a great place to take a class. Next on the list is cleaning the shop because I have abused it. Oh, yeah and making a few labradorite pendants for a waiting customer. Hope she likes what I have coming up! Have a great weekend everyone.
Neat ring, Joy. Do you use any glue underneath or do the prongs hold the stone securely?
Good luck at your show. Sue
Nope no glue. I just make sure the prongs are nice and tight and really tendril around something. You should have no movement to the stone. On a really domed flat stone it’s better to use square wire for the prongs. It holds better than round wire or file a flat side to the round wire – even better use half round wire.
I love the ring. I have just started fooling around with prongs and it’s nice to see different treatments.
