Leland Blue…. A Great Lakes Gem

From 1870-1885 during the Iron Ore refining process on the Great Lakes, a byproduct created by an assortment of minerals: copper and silica sands was melted together at extremely high temperatures and dumped in the Great Lakes… creating Leland Blue! A blue, green, grey, or purple stone that is actually an iron ore slag. Today it is sought after for its historical and geographical significance on the beaches of the Great Lakes and not hard to find!
