Hmmmm…. what is this??? Well, Tammy Rae was over playing yesterday. She is a boro glass maker ~ Glass By Tammy Rae. She has embedding stainless steel nuts into glass cabochons in her kiln. She can then screw the glass cab to the ring mounting, pendant mounting and there is even a bracelet mounting. You can interchange the pieces at any time….. changing the color themes, etc….
The ring alone was fine but we had to doll it up. She is going to make several discs and domes and squares, embellish them and add them to your ring, change them when you feel like it. Very cool. We made this disc from bronze and added amethyst, citrine gemstones.
My brain is swirling to add sterling silver and gold inter-changeable tops to the rings, etc… Awesome! I have to solder the stainless nut onto my piece which takes a lot of practice. I have done it one other time. The stainless has to get so hot to accept the solder that you risk destroying the sterling in the process. I will have to practice with some scrap before I used anything that is finished. A welder would do it but I don’t have a small enough one and I am not going to buy one ($4000). Making a tube setting for the nut would work as well. I’ll get to it and let you know what I come up with. Love it.
